Avoiding the top 10 SharePoint mistakes

Avoiding the top 10 SharePoint mistakes

No intranet is easy, because you’re attempting to meet many and varied business needs; but SharePoint, being a bit of a Swiss army knife, is especially challenging for intranet managers and comms people.

Over the years, Sam Marshall has repeatedly seen certain SharePoint mistakes, and helped organisations overcome them. At September’s Congres conference in Utrecht, Sam presented the following top ten mistakes.

Mistakes include:

  1. Making it all about head office
  2. Promoting silence
  3. Making it all talk
  4. Hiding all the good stuff
  5. No channel strategy
  6. Confusing communication with collaboration
  7. Too little governance
    7.5 Too much governance
  8. Excluding half your workforce
  9. Only planning the launch
  10. No strategy.

You may well be familiar with the above themes – flip through the SlideShare for inspiration as to how to tackle these common challenges. Prioritise your development plan according to business value, but also create some quick wins to demonstrate your commitment to continuous improvement.
